Cathedral Pastoral Life Committee Update

NEWS FROM THE CATHEDRAL PASTORAL LIFE COMMITTEE.

The new Pastoral Life Committee met for the first time on Thursday 8 June. Although Fr Vijay noted that the Cathedral’s sense of community has taken a big hit as a result of the fire, there is still plenty happening.

Committee membership:

Membership remains the same as that of the Parish Pastoral Committee and every member represents one of the areas of responsibility in the new committee’s Terms of Reference. But we discussed ways to be more representative and inclusive in our information gathering.

We would like to be more in touch with the ideas of different groups within the parish, so will follow this up with conversations with committee members and with different parish groups.

 Evangelisation/Sacramental Programmes:

St James’ will hold a Baptism course at the school next term.

Our First Communion celebrations are happening now! OLOL on Sunday 6 June and Cathedral June 11 – all went well.

Meg is busy with Marriage Preparation with 6 couples.

Outreach to the City and those in Need.

There is the potential to hold a meditation session for Public Health staff in the Cathedral Lounge.

The Young Vinnies group is up and running at both St James’s and St Peters.

ACROSS (Anglican, Catholic Social Services) is working on developing a community hub in Roslyn.

Care for the Sick and Elderly.

The Elder Care Project looked at pastoral visits to sick and isolated Kotahi Ano parishioners. The report will soon be available. A number of recommendations have been made, beginning with keeping our data-base information current.

School Communities:

St James school is looking for a new Deputy Principal. They are also planning for a 65th Jubilee, Sept 8-10.

St Peters will celebrate St Peter’s Day on June 30th. Rolling strikes will be across 2-year groups per week.

Other Matters:

The Church Life survey has gone out on behalf of the Catholic Bishops and is live until June 20th. Thank you if you have completed this. Please do so  if you have not.

We are still working on our strategic planning survey and will postpone the release of the survey and the parish meeting until after the Cathedral is open and our community has had time to rebuild again.
