Baptism is the sacrament through which we enter the Church.

We use water as the central sign of God’s love. We are bathed in water and immersed in the love of God.

The water is Spirit-filled. It brings new life.

The vocation to be another Christ, to be Christian is made explicit in the ritual of baptism.

We are anointed as Priest, Prophet and King.

As priests, we are first worshippers of God and secondly, we are bringers of people to praise God.

As prophets, we are speakers of truth to untruth, of mercy to hatred and justice to injustice.

As king are called to be Christ’s presence in the world and to take on leadership in the Church and the world.

Baptism is the doorway to Eucharist and precedes Confirmation. 

Together, baptism, confirmation and eucharist are the sacraments of initiation.
