Cathedral Open Hours – Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 1pm.

Our Lady of Lourdes Parishthere will be no 10am Mass at OLOL on Tuesday, 21 May due to the Pentecost Octave 5.30pm Mass at the Cathedral.
Due to increasing numbers attending weekend Masses at OLOL the seating plan in the church will be adjusted (Herringbone style) to ensure that everybody attending can sit in the church and take an active part in the Mass.  This will begin Pentecost weekend.  When you arrive at Mass, please ensure that you fill up the front rows first, as we are called to be a community.  Thank you for your understanding as our Parish thrives and grows.

WHAT’S ON

Palmerston North Young Adult Ministry – Mass at Massey is happening on Wednesdays at 12:05, the Centre (opposite the bus stop).  All Welcome.

Wednesday Evening Rosary – Wednesday evenings at 5pm, you are invited to pray the Rosary. For further information, contact Ian Sutherland 06- 356-7555.

Shining Stars (Pre-School Music Group) – Thursday mornings (during school terms) starting at 9:30am in the Cathedral Lounge.  Come along for music fun, followed by morning tea and play.

Ladies Movie Afternoon – Due to a funeral on Tuesday, the Ladies Movie will be on Wednesday, 15 May at 1.30pm in Cathedral Lounge. “The phantom of the Open”, the story of Adam Flitcroft who manages to enter the British Open, despite not really knowing how to play golf.

Blokes Morning Tea – Tuesday 14 May, 10am at the Manawatu Golf Club.  All welcome.

Hours of Mercy – Each Friday from 5 April – 17 May, 9:45am – 1pm at St Mary’s Catholic Church and weekdays 7.30am to 9.00am and Friday 6 to 7pm at the Cathedral.

Praying the Sunday Gospel is held every Friday in the Parish Office Meeting Room at 11.00 am.  This is a time for quiet contemplation and reflection on the Gospel.

NEWS & INFORMATION

Anniversary of Fatima Apparitions – May to October.  The Rosary will be recited in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at the Cathedral, 3pm on Monday 13 May, and on the 13th of each month through to October.  These are the anniversary dates of the apparitions of The Virgin Mary at Fatima in 1917.  All welcome.  For further information contact Ian Sutherland at 0273567444.

Pentecost Celebrations – 19-26 May PLEASE CHECK OUT THE PENTECOST CELEBRATION SCHEDULE available on the back of this week’s newsletter, on the Cathedral website or hard copy in the Cathedral foyer.  PLEASE NOTE:  The special events for this celebration are in addition to our regularly scheduled weekly events.

Personal Prayer Time – The Cathedral Parish is celebrating Pentecost with personal prayer time after each of their 3 Masses on Sunday, 19 May and after the Tuesday midday Mass, 21 May. Sue Higgins is looking for teams of 2 people to support any parishioners in their personal prayer.  It would not take much of your time and there is a yummy morning tea to follow on the Sunday!!  Please let Sue know (contact details below) if you are available as a team of 2 (with your significant other or a friend), otherwise she can match you up with a person to be with on the day.  Sue is organising a training session on the day prior – Saturday, 18 May from 1.00 to 1.30pm. Hospitality required for Pentecost Sunday Mass, 19 May – After the 9.30am Mass, all parishioners are invited to share morning tea.  As this is, as well, the Parish Feast Day, we would like it to be a real celebration. Any contributions of food towards this event would be greatly appreciated.

Anointing Mass – Friday, 24 May If you or someone you know needs help to arrange transportation to the Anointing Mass commencing  at 12:05pm in the Cathedral, please contact our Pastoral Care Team – Meg de Joux 021 965 974 or Donna Brown 021 229 5753.

St Vincent de Paul Society – Next meeting is on Tuesday, 14 May at 5:15pm in the Cathedral Lounge.  All are welcome.

Citywide Youth Minister and Chaplain to St Peters College – We warmly welcome Emma Whitson to the role of Chaplain at St Peters College and Justin Lino, who will run the Citywide Senior Youth Group!

St Vinnie’s Op Shop – We are still in need of toys, furniture and bedding.  If you are in need for some assistance, please phone 06 357 6779.

Volunteer Opportunity – If there is anyone interested in a cleaning position for one and a half hours per week, please contact the Parish Office via email office@pncathedral.org.nz.

Catholic Parish Summit – 12-14 June 2024

Later this year, a small group of parishioners will be traveling to an international gathering of those interested in Parish Renewal. This ‘Parish Summit’ has the following theme : “Your parish matters now more than ever.  Sending disciples. Equipping leaders. Launching transformation.”  The conference is being held in June 2024, United Kingdom, in the town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire and will be hosting Catholic parish groups from all over the world.

Bishop John is offering to pay the conference registration fees of any parishioners who would like to join our small group of leaders. Airfares are available from under $2,000 return, plus some additional accommodation costs.
