Jesus is Calling
(Mark 10: 46 – 52)
Jesus stopped in his tracks. “Call him over.” They called him. “It’s your lucky day! Get up! He’s calling you to come!” Throwing off his coat, he was on his feet at once and came to Jesus. Jesus said, “What can I do for you?” The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” “On your way,” said Jesus. “Your faith has saved and healed you.” In that very instant he recovered his sight and followed Jesus down the road. (Mark 10: 49 – 52)
At Mass today, I brought with me a long list of prayer intentions. I have friends who are out of work or who hate the jobs they have. I know people who are depressed, sick, or lonely; lots and lots of people who wish their lives were different than what they are. Sometimes I want to call out, like the man on the side of the road: Jesus, have pity! Have pity!”
And Jesus is calling back, “What can I do for you?” I don’t always know. What’s best got all my suffering friends? The right job or the right relationship may not be enough. Happiness doesn’t arrive in the neat packages we expect. Bartimaeus was sure of what he wanted, and he had the courage and strength to spring up and run to Jesus. Maybe his response is the best one, and the only one we need: “I want to see.” If each of us could clearly see, we might not be so regularly paralysed by the events in our lives. We might spend less time frozen on the diving board, and more time in the water.
What aspects of your life are unclear to you? Where is Jesus calling you to be right now?
Pray
God, when others cry out, help us to listen and not turn them away. When their cries are to us, give us the strength and courage to respond on your behalf. When we cry out to you, help us to listen then, too, and rejoice in the answers you give. Amen.
Ponder
Seek a clear vision. Pray more faithfully. Ask for advice from someone you trust. Read the Scriptures. Make retreat or reflection time a normal part of your routine.
“It’s your lucky day! Get up! He’s calling you to come!”
Kid’s Corner
Jesus said, “What can I do for you?” The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” (Mark 10: 51)
When Bartimaeus (bar-tim-ay-us), a blind man, heard that Jesus was passing by, he called out to him for help. People told him to be quiet, but still he called to the Lord. Jesus heard Bartimaeus’ prayer and healed him. Bartimaeus teaches us an important lesson – that we don’t have to let anyone keep us from asking the Lord for help whenever we need it.
Dear Jesus, I know that nothing is impossible for you. Please help ________ . Amen.

PILGRIMAGE TO MEDJUGORJE: 30 May – 15 June 2025 (Tentative Dates) Medjugorje is not just a pilgrimage, it’s an immersion experience into a rhythm of prayer; in a setting steeped in the Lord’s peace. This past month, the apparition site of Medjugorje was approved by the Vatican; “parishioners are called to believe and to visit.” Having now experienced 2 pilgrimages to Medjugorje myself, I’m experiencing a calling to bring others to this Holy place. If you have heard, been curious, or know nothing about Medjugorje, perhaps you are praying for a conversion of heart for someone, or you are wanting to deepen your own commitment to prayer life; then Mary is extending an invitation to you to come to Medjugorje. I will be taking a small group (10-12) on a 10 day experience of prayer, joy and peace. This will not be a holiday nor a sightseeing adventure. It will be a full pilgrimage with immersion into Daily Mass, Daily Adoration, Prayer, Rosary, Reflection and Fasting. A once in a lifetime opportunity to say“YES” to deepening your relationship with Mary and Jesus. If you would like to join this pilgrimage, or find out more details/costings call Celia Thomas on 027 3250 169. I am praying you will respond to Mary’s calling.
