St Mary’s Foxton/Shannon – Pastoral Life
A snippet from meetings held by parishioners of St Mary’s in Foxton. We have been meeting on a regular basis to plan working bees, talk about issues impacting the parish, learn how the parish functions and share ideas. The working bees have been fun, with shared morning tea before and after the work. Besides an opportunity to talk and catch-up, they have been productive, with the back of the church looking tidier, trees trimmed, unwanted equipment removed from the hall and a new fence facing the main road. Parishioners have given their resources in the way of free labour, materials, sharing of skills and lots of energy. An exciting plan is in process for the students of St Mary’s School to use the hall kitchen to prepare their lunches. This will require the kitchen to be refurbished with new whiteware and refreshed with paint. The plan is in the early negotiation stages and if funding becomes available will be of benefit to the parish community, providing pastoral care and strengthened relationships.
