Confirmation was originally the second sacrament, that followed baptism and came before the Eucharist, of Christian initiation and will be conferred in Palmerston North on ____________.

Confirmation is also known as ‘chrismation’ because the person is anointed for the second time with Chrism on the head.  The first time having been at baptism.

This second anointing is usually done by the bishop or his representative.

The bishop’s anointing symbolizes that the person being confirmed and their baptism are part of the larger life of the Church.

So, the bishop “confirms” the baptism of the person that they received as an infant or when the bishop did not himself administer baptism.

Chrismation is the action of putting the consecrated oil of Chrism on the person’s head.

Confirmation or Chrismation focusses on the life of the Holy Spirit that is given to individuals in the Church and through those people and the Church to the world.

It focusses on the gifts of the Spirit, the fruits of the Spirit and the works of the Spirit.

Preparation for Confirmation/Chrismation is a City-Wide process and we invite your registration for this programme which is happening in Term One, 2024.
