Beloved members of our Catholic parish communities, as we approach the joyous season of Christmas, let us take a moment to reflect on the true essence of this sacred celebration. Together, let us delve into the profound significance that extends beyond the sparkling lights, adorned trees, and the exchange of presents.
In the heart of our faith, Christmas is not a mere culmination of material things – not the towering and glittering Christmas trees, the carefully wrapped presents, the delectable Christmas cake, nor the array of fancy foods that grace our tables. While these elements add a festive charm to the season, they are not the essence of Christmas. We need not follow the path of the Grinch, who believed Christmas could be found in boxes and bags.
The true meaning of Christmas lies in the miraculous birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. It is a celebration of hope, love, and the profound grace bestowed upon humanity. As we gather with family and friends, let us remember the teachings of Christ, who reminded us that our true wealth lies not in earthly possessions but in the richness of our hearts.
Christmas is not confined to a single day on the calendar; it is a perpetual state of being. Our faith calls us to embody the spirit of Christmas throughout the year. As we read in Colossians, “And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony” (3:14).
