Fourth Sunday of Advent

Kia ora koutou,

As we light the final candle of the Advent wreath, our hearts are drawn to Mary and her remarkable “yes” to God. Her trust and courage are inspiring, especially as we reflect on the Gospel of Matthew (1:18-24), where Joseph also responds to God’s call with faith and obedience. Together, Mary and Joseph show us how openness to God’s will can bring forth something extraordinary—Christ, our Saviour.

Advent reminds us to prepare room in our lives for Jesus, not just during Christmas but every day. In Aotearoa New Zealand, summer brings a season of rest and connection with whānau (family) and friends—a perfect time to renew our relationships and deepen our faith. As the natural world around us blooms, we can also let the light of Christ grow within us, shining through our words, actions, and love for others.

This Christmas, let’s take a moment amidst the busyness to pause and remember the profound simplicity of the Nativity. Christ came into the world in humility, born in a stable, showing us that God’s love reaches into every corner of our lives. Let us carry that love into our communities, being bearers of hope and joy.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and have a safe and happy summer holiday. May this season be filled with blessings, peace, and a renewed sense of God’s presence.

The Viewpoint and Weekly Theme will return at the end of January 2025. Until then, may you find joy in celebrating the birth of Christ and peace in His abiding presence.

Ngā manaakitanga (blessings),
