Pentecost

Kia ora

As we gather together as a parish community on the joyous day of Pentecost, we are reminded of the profound significance of this event in the life of the Church. Pentecost marks the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, empowering them to boldly proclaim the Gospel message to the ends of the earth.

Just as the apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit, so too are we called to be receptive to the Spirit’s presence in our lives. In the midst of our busy and often chaotic world, Pentecost serves as a gentle reminder of the constant presence of the Spirit, guiding and directing us on our journey of faith.

The flames that descended upon the apostles symbolise the transformative power of the Holy Spirit, igniting within them a fervent zeal for spreading the Good News. Similarly, the Spirit continues to ignite within each of us a passion for serving others, for building up the kingdom of God here on earth.

Pentecost is also a celebration of unity amidst diversity. As the apostles spoke in tongues, people from every nation were able to understand the message of salvation. In our diverse parish community, we are called to embrace our differences and recognize the beauty of our unity in Christ.

Moreover, Pentecost challenges us to step out of our comfort zones and embrace new opportunities for growth and mission. Just as the apostles were emboldened to proclaim the Gospel in unfamiliar territories, so too are we called to venture into the unknown, trusting in the guidance of the Spirit.

As we reflect on the significance of Pentecost, may we be renewed in our commitment to live as faithful disciples of Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit to be agents of love, mercy, and reconciliation in our world today.

Now, without wanting to dampen the joy of Pentecost, if you are not feeling well, or have children who are unwell, be with your parish community in spirit, but please stay at home from Mass and get well. As we enter into the winter, the colds, flus, and of course, Covid, are getting a head of steam. We have many vulnerable people in our community, and we must protect them.

God bless you all,

Steve
