Passionist Family Movement…

The Passionist Family Group Movement, originally started in Australia, has taken root and flourished within the heart of our New Zealand Catholic community. This dynamic movement offers a down-to-earth spirituality, grounded in the Gospel message of love, compassion, and the building of friendships and community. Its primary aim is to foster a strong sense of belonging among parishioners, creating a tight-knit and supportive family within our larger parish family.

At the core of the Passionist Family Group Movement is the conviction that we are all members of Christ’s body, called to build meaningful connections with one another. Through the gathering of family groups once a month, we engage in shared activities like picnics, barbeques, and other social events, providing ample opportunities for people to get to know each other on a deeper level.

By participating in these activities, we not only strengthen the bonds of friendship within our parish community but also develop a sense of belonging, knowing that we are part of something greater than ourselves. As we share moments of joy and laughter, we also find solace in times of challenge, knowing that we have a support system of like-minded individuals who walk beside us in our journey.

The down-to-earth spirituality of the Passionist Family Group Movement makes it accessible and relevant to individuals and families from all walks of life. Whether you are a young family, a single individual, or a seasoned member of our parish, you will find a welcoming and inclusive space within this movement. One of the many positive aspects of a Passionist Family Group is that those in a group can range in age from elderly to a baby. Whether parishioners are married, single, divorced, young or old, Catholic, or non-Catholic, everyone is welcome.

Passionist Family Groups are not prayer groups, Bible-study groups, or discussion groups. They are social and are about getting to know other parishioners. The emphasis is on allowing people to put the Gospel into practice through mutual care and support for each other within the group.

We wholeheartedly invite you to become part of the Passionist Family Group Movement in our New Zealand Catholic parish. Join us as we build meaningful relationships and spread Christ’s love in our community and beyond. Together, we will embrace the beauty of homespun spirituality, where the ordinary moments of life become infused with extraordinary grace.

The National Coordinator for the Passionist Family Groups in New Zealand, Paul Traynor, will be speaking at the masses on the weekend of the relaunch of the Passionist Family Groups. There will also be an opportunity to fill in the information form that will be made available at all Masses.

In the spirit of Christ’s love, let us strengthen our sense of belonging and become a genuine community.

With open hearts and open arms,
Steve
